Overview for Certificate in the Principles and Practice of Laser Protection Supervisor (LSO) - Level 5 Course

A brief description about this Activity.

This advanced Certificate in the Principles and Practice of Laser Protection Supervisor (LSO) course is for learners seeking Level 5 certification in radiation safety and will be typically the Laser Safety Supervisor / Laser Safety Officer (LSO). The course content is the safety certification specified by the Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency (MHRA) for Laser Safety Officers (LSOs) and is approved by the British Medical Laser Association (BMLA). The MHRA requirement for ‘Core of Knowledge’ courses is that they should be delivered by a specialist laser protection adviser (LPA) with competence in laser/IPL safety, rather than as a stand-alone regulated qualification, or as part of a laser/IPL qualification. Video training is supported with dedicated workbooks for each module and you are required to complete enhanced multiple-choice assessments at the end of each theory module. Several elective and mandatory written tasks must be completed and submitted as evidence of practical competencies. Online Laser Training provides additional study resources including selected published clinical studies to assist in the completion of these portfolio tasks. Following successful completion of these tasks, an independent award certificate is issued. For reasons of health and safety of the learner, the use of Class 4 lasers and Intense Light Source equipment is not recommended for the visually impaired owing to the high risk of injury to a client. OLT has had learners with learning difficulties (such as dyslexia and physical disability) successfully complete our courses BECAUSE they are online and can be taken in their own time. There is unrestricted availability of our video presentations, workbooks and slide transcripts and our written assessments can be retaken multiple times. OLT advocates the principles of Equal Opportunities and recognises its legal duty to ensure that none of its policies and procedures constitutes any form of unlawful discrimination. This policy reflects OLT’s commitment to Equal Opportunities in tertiary education and supports learners gaining skills and knowledge in order to be more effective in their workplaces. I have also uploaded OLT's Equal Opportunities Learner’s Charter
