Overview for Nail Fungal Treatment Using a Q-Switched ND:YAG Laser

A brief description about this Activity.

Nail fungal infections (Onychomycosis) are often difficult to treat with traditional anti-fungal drugs - many of which are highly toxic and require clients to have regular blood tests to check for any signs of liver damage etc. Recently, different types of lasers have been used to treat these nail plate fungal infections with varying degrees of success. At first most of these lasers were long pulsed systems that heated the nail bed in an effort to destroy the filaments of fungus. However, recently a technical paper was published by a team of European researchers that describes the use of the Q-switched Nd:YAG laser normally used for tattoo removal..
