Overview for Elements of Shipboard Safety: Module 1

A brief description about this Activity.

This online course is a relevant and essential introduction to the Health & Safety aspects of living and working onboard a ship of any type or size, anywhere in the world. This course is separated into 3 modules. Each module will lead the learner through the topic areas in turn, introducing the various codes and legislation that exist, and outlining the various hazards faced by seafarers. Module 2 builds upon Module 1 by outlining various emergencies and accidents that may happen at sea, including extensive use of real-world case studies which highlight how human error and lapses in judgement can exacerbate maritime accidents. The second part of this module is dedicated to fire and firefighting. The relevant maritime fire regulations are examined, and crew roles and responsibilities are outlined. The learner will also study principles of fire spread & prevention, including the different types and classes of fire and fire extinguisher, or other firefighting equipment.
