A brief description about this Activity.
This online course is intended to align UK flagged cargo ships with the broad approach used by the UK Department for Transport (formerly TRANSEC) with UK flagged passenger ships and port facilities, and to help in the generation of practical and sustainable regimes that balance the security of the ship with the wellbeing of the crew. The Cargo Ship Security Instructions course is divided into 3 modules. Module 1 of the course (Introduction to Cargo Ship Security) gives a general introduction to ship security and the international legal requirements that ships must comply with to maintain a high level of security and safety. The learner will find out about SOLAS and the ISPS Code, and what requirements these place upon shipping. This course also outlines Ship Security Plans (SSPs), Security Inspections and the international system of security levels, known as MARSEC.
