A brief description about this Activity.
Childhood relational experiences and adverse events greatly influence adult relational strategies. When working with couples, especially highly reactive and conflictive ones, precisely the most difficult to treat with standard couple therapy, having an attachment informed therapeutic approach can be of great help. In this workshop we will outline a conceptual framework from which to integrate attachment and other affective systems into couple therapy. We shall analyse what adjustments need to be made in the assessment and intervention with these couples. We will also provide intervention strategies to maximise work with them and how and when to introduce these interventions with couples who, initially, are not in therapy to work on their past, but on their present relational conflicts.
