A brief description about this Activity.
Executive Dysfunction (EDF) and its impact on daily life are often overlooked or underestimated as a contributor to the problems experienced by children, adolescents, and adults. An understanding of and strategies for remediating the impact of EDF and the associated disorders on family, education, socialization, behavior, and vocational performance will be provided. This will include definitions of EDF and associated disorders. The definitions will be pragmatic and will relate to how each of the neurological disorders impacts performance. Strategies such as cognitive modification strategies that can be easily utilized in everyday life will be given for practical remediation of the impact of EDF on everyday life. The strategies reduce stress and decrease the impact of neurological disorders across multiple settings. The strategies are easy to implement and can be used in conjunction with individual or family therapy, at school, or at a work setting. This leaves the client, the family, co-workers, and friends with a positive, more successful relationship. These strategies create bridges that span the gap between failure and success. Included in the information will be assessment tools and treatment resources. Handouts will be included that assist the listener to utilize the information presented. All of the material will be presented in a meaningful, motivational presentation that makes it interesting and easily understood by the participants. This lecture has been presented at the International Tourette Syndrome Association Convention, the International Learning Disability Association Convention, the American Speech and Hearing Association Convention, and the Tourette Syndrome Foundation of Canada’s Annual General Meeting, as well as in other national and international conventions.
