A brief description about this Activity.
Adlerian counselling is well suited for clinical practice today because its theory and practice are compatible with a wide range of contemporary approaches. These approaches include the cognitive-behavioral, interpersonally oriented dynamic, systemic, humanistic, and experiential approaches. It is noteworthy that many of the basic principles of Adlerian Counselling have influenced and predated some of the most commonly utilized counselling approaches that are used today (Corey, 2017). The Adlerian perspective is optimistic and focuses on assets, strengths, and health rather than on liabilities, deficits, and pathology. This workshop will focus on the utilization of Adlerian Counselling strategies that can be used with adolescents and adults. The workshop will include an overview of the theory and the practice of Adlerian counselling and will also review the four phases of Adlerian Counselling. Emphasis will be on techniques such as acting as-if, push button technique, constructive action, early recollections and lifestyle assessment. In this workshop, Dr. Jon Sperry will teach and demonstrate Adlerian Counselling techniques. Dr. Sperry will provide case examples and will ask participants to participate in various experiential activities to learn the theory and practice of Adlerian Counselling.
