A brief description about this Activity.
In this first module, we will trace the roots of evolutionary psychology. We will examine the key ideas on which evolutionary psychology is based. This will include its links to the hard sciences such as biology, physics, chemistry, and neurology, among others. There will be a consideration of some of the key past and present proponents of an evolutionary approach to mental health. We will address such topics as: perception, balance, transformation, subjectivity, fantasies and nightmares. We will begin our exploration of the two most common challenges in mental health today, depression and anxiety. The role of personal values, creativity and the seven different forms of stress will also be addressed. We will also consider the personal and professional value to the therapist of using evolutionary psychology. We will finish this, and each module, with a list of “Take Aways” and a “Module Summary” to anchor the key points for the participant.
