Overview for Keys to Using Evolutionary Psychology to Empower

A brief description about this Activity.

Every child is born with a will to live, a belief they can be anything, do anything and have anything. While, research suggests this is true biologically it is less so in practice due to limiting beliefs. So, for most clients with mental health issues, the fundamental challenge are perceptions of hopelessness, uselessness or helplessness. Their perception of dis-empowerment leaves them crippled to act in their own best interests. Often then, client empowerment is the therapist’s underlying agenda. This is where evolutionary psychology can be a very effective approach because of its sound biological basis. In this module, we will explore how to assist clients to empower themselves in each of the seven areas of their life: spiritually, mentally, vocationally, financially, socially, famially and physically. We will address the key laws on empowerment and how to support and challenge clients to rediscover them and use them, in their daily life. We will discuss specific case studies where disempowerment is the key challenge and how to approach it quickly and effectively. We will demonstrate specific and effective intervention ideas and tools with various situations including: children, teens, adults, seniors and couples. Participants will leave with a collection of ideas, tools, techniques to put into immediate use.
