A brief description about this Activity.
Bullying is a significant impediment at any age; and for those whose bullying stories are rooted in parts of self like race and culture, body image, sexual and gender identity, neurodiversity and style of learning, socioeconomic background, and even individual family dynamics, the effects reach every corner of our lives. We are cast out as the “Other,” and spend much of our lives trying to understand ourselves in a world that has shown us that we are not worthy of voice, expression, and the right to take up space. We struggle with: Intimate bonds and parenting that are shadowed by the unshakeable sense that we’re somehow damaged goods, and therefore inferior. Professional lives that are haunted by the belief that major parts of ourselves must be hidden or left out; and that doubling down in work will finally give us the worth we so desperately crave. Trying to find voice to answer fundamental questions like “What do I want and need?” “What choices do I make to feel fully alive?” A bullying, oppressive world has riddled us with shame and diminished worth. For even very successful adults, the bullies of our past come to exist as a living presence. The result is that we spend large portions of our live feeling alone and afraid, which can spiral us into a state of hopelessness about our ability to affect life change. In this highly interactive workshop, TEDx speaker Dr. Stacee Reicherzer, author of The Healing Otherness Handbook: Overcome the Trauma of Identity-based Bullying and Find Power in Your Difference provides a roadmap for healing Otherness in ourselves and in supporting clients and patients in their own healing journeys. As an attendee, you will learn the five Rules of Fear that Otherness bullying instills, exploring how fear has settled into the crevices of your own life and that of the people around you. Most importantly, you’ll be provided the Tools for Change: Clarity, Compassion, Creativity, and Sass, and spend time in session familiarizing yourself with their use in both your own experience and in therapeutic settings. You’ll leave session with not only a renewed since of your own freedom as a choicemaker, but with a toolkit of skills for work with your clients and patients. You’ll also have a lot of fun!
