Overview for Single Session Therapy with Prof Windy Dryden

A brief description about this Activity.

Single-session therapy (SST) is an intentional endeavour where the therapist and client meet with the purpose of helping the client deal with a pressing issue in that session while understanding that more help is available if needed. Research shows that when SST is offered promptly over 70% of clients are satisfied with the session and over 50% do not require further help at that point. Drawing on Windy Dryden’s book The Single-Session Counselling Primer: Principles and Practice, this online workshop describes the mindset that is needed to practise SST and the practice that tends to flow from this mindset. Windy will thus make the point that SST is NOT an approach to counselling and therapy in the way that person-centred therapy or CBT is, but is a way of delivering therapy services. As such, it can be practised by therapists from a variety of different orientations. Windy will demonstrate the way he works in SST with a volunteer from the audience who has a pressing concern that they are prepared to discuss with me in front of an online audience. He will give plenty of time to participants to share their doubts, reservations and objections to this way of working. He will also discuss how SST best sits alongside other ways of delivering therapy services and how it might best be integrated into an agency.
