Overview for Trauma in the Eyes of the Beholder: Understanding Military Related Trauma, Becoming Trauma-Informed; Moving From Traumatized To Triumphant

A brief description about this Activity.

Trauma affects the human experience: mind, body and spirit. We now know that trauma also includes micro traumas, macro traumas as well as secondary or vicarious traumatic experiences. Trauma is in the eyes of the beholder; thus trauma isn’t selective. With PTS (Post Traumatic Stress), PTSD (Post Traumatic Stress Disorder), C/PTSD (Complex Post Traumatic Stress Disorder) and even intergenerational trauma, traditionally can commonly occur in people who have experienced or witnessed a traumatic event. However, not all who have experienced trauma develop a diagnosable disorder. This in conjunction with military and combat-related trauma(s) (even across generations) makes the therapy process and growth even more complex as it often includes moral injury as a result of traumatic experiences. Often this leads to moral injury, disconnectedness some time ultimately leading to suicidal ideation. Trauma-informed care includes helping those who have been exposed to horrific, terrifying and catastrophic events as well as those who have experienced micro traumas as well. Trauma is any negative life event in which the brain perceives a real sense of danger and helplessness. Acute or Complex trauma may influence long-term mental health consequences. Many people will go years without realizing they have experienced trauma, often reporting they are ashamed to admit their feelings in fear of being seen as weak. In addition, military and combat related trauma also affects families and people’s support systems alike. Read Less Being aware of our internal as well as external triggers as well as continuing to cultivate awareness around what our triggers are, helps us regulate our emotions as well as our reactions; known as trigger awareness. Tracking our triggers, what we’re successful with as well as what you’re needing to improve, can help keep us moving into post traumatic growth and away from post traumatic re-experiencing. This growth is known as Post Traumatic Growth (PTG). Joelle has a unique formula to help move from traumatized to triumphant! PTG is a process where one is able to utilize their traumatic experiences and grow from them. PTG is not about judgment, forgetting, forgiveness or even understanding. PTG is about being able to transmute trauma into radical acceptance – accepting that the trauma is real, it affects us, and it defines our experiences. Our trauma makes us who we are in the present moment. Learn how to understand moving from trauma to triumphant with this workshop.
