Roots to Resilience: Indigenous Skills, Wellness & Workforce Readiness Program

Roots to Resilience is a culturally grounded, trauma-informed workforce readiness and life skills program designed specifically for Indigenous learners in Canada. Developed by FormativeLabz Learning & Research Academy, the program spans four interwoven modules that support learners in reclaiming wellness, building communication confidence, preparing for employment, and thriving in workplace environments—while staying rooted in cultural identity, land-based knowledge, and Indigenous teachings.

The program is structured around the Medicine Wheel and Indigenous pedagogical principles, incorporating oral storytelling, ceremony, reflection journals, and land-based education. It emphasizes emotional and spiritual strength as foundations for employability and includes practical tools such as resume writing, mock interviews, job search techniques, and communication strategies—all delivered through a lens of cultural safety and dignity.

Each module combines traditional knowledge with modern employability skills to build confidence, competence, and purpose among First Nations, Inuit, and Métis participants. Through guided storytelling, elder-led sessions, affirmation exercises, and real-world scenario training, learners are empowered to enter the workforce not by leaving their identity behind—but by leading with it.
