Certified CPD

Sale of training courses or materials — accreditation body also sells its own training

Certified CPD operates as both a commercial training provider selling its own courses (subscription-based, enterprise learning, individual courses including data protection and ISO 27001) and as an accreditation organisation that accredits external courses and organisations. The Accreditation page states: "Certified CPD is a UK-registered training provider delivering face-to-face and online professional learning globally. Alongside our own accredited programmes, we formally accredit external courses and organisations that meet our professional, industry, and quality standards."

The "What We Accredit" page identifies external clients accepted for accreditation as including "Online courses and e-learning programmes", "Face-to-face training and workshops", "Blended learning programmes", "Sector-specific professional development courses", "Training providers", "Corporate learning teams", "Consultancies and professional services firms", and "Independent course creators and education businesses".

Under Criterion 8 of our Methodology, we record the factual position: this organisation sells training in the same market as the providers it accredits (sector-specific online and face-to-face professional development courses). CPD Training Providers considering submitting course materials should ask Certified CPD what undertakings it gives regarding the confidentiality and non-use of submitted course materials, what governance separates its accreditation function from its commercial training activity, and whether its accreditation panel has any role in its own course development.

Commercial identification and contactability

The trading name "Certified CPD" corresponds to CERTIFIED CPD LTD (Companies House number 15146554), incorporated on 19 September 2023. The registered office address is 141 Wrythe Lane, Carshalton, England, SM5 2RU. The legal entity name is not visible on the Accreditation page screenshots reviewed; under Companies Act 2006 section 1202 (trading disclosures), a UK business using a trading name is required to disclose the name of the legal entity behind it on its website. We have not had access to the website footer or terms pages to verify whether such disclosure appears elsewhere on the site.

Email contact [email protected] is published on the Accreditation page. A published telephone number, live chat, or registered correspondence postal address for trading (as distinct from the registered office) was not identifiable on the screenshots reviewed.

Transparency of assessment framework

Certified CPD publishes a high-level statement of accreditation criteria on its Accreditation page: that course content is "accurate, current, and industry-relevant", that learning outcomes are "clearly defined and measurable", that delivery methods "support effective professional learning", that "assessment or validation methods are appropriate to the subject area", and that courses "meet recognised CPD standards and contribute to professional learning hours or CPD points".

A five-step process is published: Initial Enquiry, Review, Evaluation, Decision, Ongoing. The Evaluation step states courses are "reviewed by subject-matter experts from our global industry expert bank".

What is not published on the Accreditation page reviewed: the detailed scoring or assessment rubric against which submissions are measured, the qualifications or named identities of the subject-matter experts on the "global industry expert bank", a dated framework version, or guidance on what would cause a submission to fail. Under our Methodology, a published high-level set of criteria is a positive feature; the absence of a detailed, dated, public framework limits the ability of training providers to understand in advance precisely what they are being assessed against.

Pricing transparency

Pricing for Certified CPD's accreditation services is not published on the Accreditation page reviewed. The page directs prospective applicants to "Apply for Accreditation" and "Enquire Now", with the process beginning at "Initial Enquiry". This is a consultative sales model rather than a transparent published price.

Pricing for Certified CPD's own courses sold to individual learners (subscription, individual courses, enterprise learning) is referenced via the navigation menu but was not within the screenshots reviewed.

Under Criterion 4 of our Methodology, we record this as accreditation pricing not published. Training providers considering accreditation with this organisation should request the full pricing structure (one-off fees, recurring fees, optional additional services, inclusions/exclusions for site visits, renewals, course updates) in writing before engaging.

Individual course assessment

Certified CPD's published five-step process indicates that course materials, learning outcomes, delivery models, and assessment approaches are reviewed (Step 2) and that courses are then evaluated by subject-matter experts (Step 3) prior to a decision (Step 4). On the published process, accreditation is granted at course level rather than as a blanket provider-level approval. The organisation's "What We Accredit" page distinguishes "Course Accreditation" from "Organisation Accreditation", which is consistent with an individual-course assessment model for the course route.

Whether the organisation operates a separate, additional blanket-style accreditation under its "Organisation Accreditation" route — and how that interacts with subsequent course-level claims — was not clarified in the screenshots reviewed. CPD Training Providers should ask whether organisation-level accreditation alone permits the use of an "Accredited Training Provider" badge on courses that have not themselves been individually assessed.

Terms and conditions

Certified CPD's published Terms and Conditions are accessible from the website footer. The published terms govern the purchase of courses by individual learners (orders, product availability, pricing, payment methods, refunds, user accounts, account termination, limitation of liability, and changes to terms). They do not address the accreditation service offered to external course providers and organisations.
Specifically, the published Terms do not set out:

The duration of an accreditation grant or any renewal terms
The basis on which accreditation may be withdrawn, suspended, or revoked
Intellectual property provisions covering course materials submitted by training providers for accreditation assessment, including confidentiality and non-use undertakings
Rights of use and restrictions on the Certified CPD logo, badge, or trustmark
Complaints, dispute resolution, or appeal procedures specific to accreditation decisions
Refund or cancellation rights specific to accreditation services
Conflict-of-interest safeguards relating to Certified CPD's parallel sale of its own training courses

The published Terms also reserve the right to "update or modify these Terms at any time without prior notice", with continued use of the website constituting acceptance. While such clauses are common in consumer website terms, the Competition and Markets Authority's guidance on unfair contract terms identifies broad unilateral variation rights as a category requiring particular care, especially where the contract governs a service relationship of more than transactional duration. An accreditation grant is, by its nature, a multi-year service relationship.

Section 4 of the published Terms refers to a Privacy Policy, and a separate Refund Policy is referenced under section 2.1; these have not been reviewed as part of this assessment.

Under Criterion 5 of our Methodology, terms and conditions specific to the accreditation service should be accessible to prospective applicants before they engage. The published terms reviewed do not meet that standard. Training providers considering accreditation with Certified CPD should request the specific contractual terms that will apply to their accreditation engagement in writing, before paying any fees, and should ensure those terms address the points listed above — particularly the IP and confidentiality provisions covering submitted course materials.

Review and renewal

Step 5 of the published accreditation process states: "Accreditation is subject to periodic review to ensure continued relevance and quality." A specific cycle (annual, biennial, triennial), the trigger for review (proactive on a fixed cycle, or reactive on submission of changes), and the process for handling material changes between reviews are not stated on the Accreditation page reviewed.

Under Criterion 7 of our Methodology, the existence of a stated review function is a positive feature; the absence of a defined and published cycle limits the assurance that accreditations will continue to reflect current standards over time.

Financial relationships with third-party service providers

Certified CPD operates an outbound affiliate marketing programme under which third-party affiliates earn a commission of 15% per sale on courses purchased by learners they refer. The programme is described as: "Join our affiliate programme and earn by sharing accredited, industry-recognised professional courses. Partner with Certified CPD to promote trusted training that supports career growth while generating income for you."

This is a marketing-spend arrangement (commission paid outwards by Certified CPD to affiliates for course referrals), not the inbound referral-commission arrangement contemplated by Criterion 9 of our Methodology (where an accreditation body receives compensation from third-party service providers such as insurers, software platforms, or CPD tools). Outbound affiliate marketing of this kind is lawful and is recognised under the CAP Code and the CMA's guidance on online endorsements, provided the affiliates themselves disclose the commercial relationship in their promotional content.

We were not able to identify, on the Affiliates page reviewed, an inbound referral, sponsorship, or affiliate arrangement under which Certified CPD itself receives compensation from third parties whose services it might recommend to accreditation customers. If such arrangements exist they have not been identified at the date of this review.

The affiliate programme does, however, contribute to the picture established in Section 1: the courses described as "accredited, industry-recognised" in the affiliate marketing copy are courses self-accredited by Certified CPD itself. Affiliates promoting those courses are therefore promoting accreditation issued by the seller of the courses, not by an independent body.

Ownership or control relationships with aligned commercial interests

Certified CPD's homepage Accreditation section displays a "Trusted by professionals worldwide" logo wall featuring C.A.T. Group, ACM Limited (Wealth Management Company), PCC Aerostructures, Arla Foods Ingredients, FuelCell Energy, and Chalhoub Group. At the time we reviewed is does not clarify the nature of the relationship between Certified CPD and these named organisations — whether they are accredited customers, enterprise training customers, partners, or have given consent for their logos to be displayed.

Separately, Companies House officer and Persons with Significant Control records for CERTIFIED CPD LTD (15146554) have not been included in this review. We will conduct that cross-reference at the next review cycle to identify whether any director or PSC of CERTIFIED CPD LTD also holds appointments at training providers, accreditation customers, or aligned commercial entities.

This finding is held open pending that cross-reference. The display of well-known international logos creates a marketing impression of endorsement; CPD Training Providers and consumers should not infer from the logo wall that those organisations endorse Certified CPD's accreditation service or have used it.

Distinguishing CPD from regulated qualifications

The trading name "Certified CPD" and the marketing language "Accredited Training Provider" used on the digital badge shown on the Accreditation page (alongside "COMPANY NAME Learning Academy") use certification and accreditation terminology that, in regulated contexts, has specific meaning. CPD accreditation is not a regulated qualification: courses awarded a Certified CPD badge are not Ofqual-recognised qualifications, do not have a regulated qualification number, and are not recognised by qualification regulators in Wales, Scotland, or Northern Ireland in that capacity.

This is a general consumer-information point that applies to all CPD accreditation, not a specific finding against this organisation. We did not identify, on the Accreditation page screenshots reviewed, language that conflates CPD accreditation with regulated qualification status.
