Conflict, Decoded is a heart-led training workshop from Irene Grindell Mediation & Training that explores why conflict happens and how we can change the way we respond to it. Built on the premise that "we can't change how we respond until we understand what is happening in our brains," it moves through five parts: why conflict happens (emotion, triggers and escalation), the models (P.I.N., Glasl's ladder, conflict styles and the Johari Window), brain and body (fight/flight/freeze/fawn and the prefrontal brake), a practical toolkit (active listening, breathing and calm responses), and growth and lasting change (mindset, emotional intelligence and habit change). Blending short inputs, reflection and hands-on tools, it equips participants to recognise their own responses and choose calmer, more intentional ones – skills that carry into work, family and everyday relationships.
This activity focuses on developing professional mediation and conflict‑resolution skills within communities. The training explores the causes and dynamics of conflict, with attention to neighbour, community, and interpersonal disputes. It equips students with practical tools to support constructive dialogue, manage emotionally charged situations, and promote mutual understanding between parties. The course combines theoretical frameworks with applied practice, enabling mediators to build confidence, neutrality, and effectiveness in real‑world scenarios while supporting ethical and inclusive practice. Upon successful completion of the assessment, qualified mediators deliver accessible, high-quality mediation and conflict resolution services across a range of settings, supporting neighbours, individuals, schools, organisations, and public bodies. The goal is simple: to foster mutual understanding, reduce conflict, and help create safer, kinder communities, one conversation at a time.
