The Confident in the Media CPD Programme is a structured, tutor-led programme for professionals, researchers and specialists whose work draws media interest and who want a reliable method for handling it. It runs in three stages. First, an extensive Learners' Reference Guide is issued as pre-course reading, setting out the evidence and the tools in full. Second, a one-day live masterclass, delivered in person or online, in which learners apply those tools to a real subject of their own: weighing up a media request, building a message and shortening it without losing its meaning, answering difficult questions, and managing voice, camera and nerves. Third, a one-month Activity Workbook turns the day into habit through short daily repetitions, weekly tasks and one real media act. The programme is open to anyone who is asked, or could be asked, to speak publicly about their work. No previous media experience or training is assumed. PREREQUISITES FOR ENROLMENT There are no prerequisites. The programme assumes no previous media experience, no speaking background and no prior training, and it is open to any professional whose work could attract media interest. It works equally for someone who has given a dozen interviews and for someone who has always declined. Two things are asked of learners rather than required of them. They are sent the Learners' Reference Guide at least a week before the training day and asked to read it, with two chapters named for anyone short of time. They are also asked, through a short pre-course form, to bring one real subject they could plausibly be asked about, since every activity on the day is applied to that subject rather than to an invented case.

The workshop blends short theoretical refreshers with intensive practice, behavioural coaching, and optional scenario twists that simulate real‑world unpredictability. Participants leave with strengthened communication discipline and repeatable tools for handling difficult conversations with professionalism and confidence.
